On September 7, 2006, the Discovery Channel aired a one hour segment about the Bean family's turmoil in the Harundale house entitled House of the Dead. 8 Questions with writer Bill Bean of "Dark Force"

The supernatural or paranormal world is vastly popular right now. You have tons of folks who are certified "ghost hunters" or "psychics" or "mediums", each one of them claiming to have otherworld connections in the beyond. But quite honestly, all they are mostly practice is the occult version of Christian preachers, you know ... the ones who gurantee "miracles" at a drop of a hat, who preach wealth over salvation, who cry at Dafur while flying on private jets all around the world.

Anyone who truly understands what a paranormal event is rarely talks about it.

It's not a happy event, no one sees a loved one, no spirit is captured on mere film unless it's a full blown possession. People who experience poltergiest events will tell you to even think about encouraging contact is about as foolhardy as one can it.

Bill Bean and his family went through much worse then mere bumps with a low level demon. They were attacked through and through in one of most extreme cases I have ever read about. Manifestations plagued his family for years causing much heartache, death and terror.

What Bill didn't know at his young age was a family member was involved in witchcraft and was dabbling with forces that no human should ever willing triffle with. This was a gateway for what was to come, starting when the Bean family moved into a new home in 1970. For many years the family was attacked on all sides ... and a lot of the family never made it from the house intact.

Bill Bean wrote his story in a book called "Dark Force". The Discovery Channel featured his story in a episode of "A Haunting". But Hollywood being Hollywood, they severely distorted his tale. I wasn't surprised at this because true paranormal events just can't be accepted for what they truly are ... a work of the devil.

What I admire about Bill is his honesty. Knowing and accepting what happened to his family was a result of another loved one's foolish and insane actions takes courage. According to Bill, he now lives a Christian life and is very happy. He and I both agreed that while we have many friends who claim to be ghost hunters and psychics (and we may lose them as pals because of this interview), we both as well. If these folks really truly were able to see what they were really chasing, they would run the other way as fast their feet would take them.

EV: What caused your family to be attacked?

BB: I believe that my mother's side of the family has a generational curse. I believe that my mom had an evil entity attach to her in her younger years as well. The family has been plagued with tragedy and hardships for many years. I truly believe that the evil attached to my family and my mother, led us to the Glen Burnie house. Furthermore, I believe that the house and area are very evil, too. So you have a two-pronged plan of attack against us.

EV: Were any of your known family witches or warlocks, or had dabbled in the occult?

BB: I can tell you that witchcraft was practiced by someone in our family (not by my father, mother, sister, brother or me).

EV: In your opinion, define what a "ghost" is to you.

BB: I truly don?t know! Maybe It's a psychic imprint, like a DVD that loops over and over. I don't know and I truly don't want to know. I'm not into horror films or paranormal shows. I can't even watch my own show through Its entirety.

We must be very careful when searching for ghosts, because I wouldn't wish some of my experiences on anyone. Satan is very real and is the original salesman. He can lead us down the wrong road in a hurry. I'm not judging or criticizing the paranormal community, but my advice is to be very cautious when looking for these things.

EV: How many folks have you met that have claimed a supernatural event?

BB: Quite a few!

EV: What is your opinion of the "ghost hunter" industry?

BB: Not a very good one. These shows are so glamourized. People are going out imitating some of these folks. I always say, you don't want to experience some of the things that I have. This is not a cool club to belong to, trust me. I was once offered $50,000 to return to my old house for ten days. This was going to be a segment for a reality show. They wanted to send the current family away on a vacation and film me for ten days in the house. I turned it down flat! That's my point, Michael, how insensitive can these people be? No thought about the ramifications of me being back in that enviroment where some of my worst memories and experiences took place. I may be on another paranormal show and may even have a movie made about all of this, but I will never allow my story to be glamourized!

EV: How did your story come to be told on "A Haunting"?

BB: A producer from their show contacted me in December 2005. I spent many hours relaying my story and information to him. A good bit of this information never made it into the show and some of the content was altered. I was very disappointed by that, but I'm grateful to New Dominion Pictures and Discovery Channel for airing it. My book is accurate to the best of my recollections and my family members' recollections. It's painfully true, Michael.

EV: Do you believe in haunted houses?

BB: Based on my experiences, I can believe anything!

EV: Do you feel the rise of demonic attacks is because the lack of true Christianity in America?

BB: Absolutely ! We are being led away from GOD and the "enemy" slides right in on us.

EV: What's the difference between a poltergeist event and what your family went through?

BB: I don't know much about poltergeist, but I do know that what we experienced in that house was pure evil, that was set on destroying us. I also know that I have been attacked by demonic forces since moving from that house. I've had a plethora of experiences, including the above mentioned.

EV: Some people are skeptics. What proof could you share with them about this event?

BB: I don't have proof as far as documentation (I do have some bizzare photos taken in that house), but I can't quantify this to satisfy the skeptics. However, I do have several people who would sign a sworn afidavit describing their experiences in that house. To the skeptic, no proof will be good enough. To the believer, no proof is required. It's a good approach to be skeptical, but not when it comes to the point of slandering or automatically discounting people's experiences.

EV: What is your life like now?

BB: I have been blessed far more than I have been cursed. GOD truly has delivered me from evil. This does not mean that the battle is over and my life is hunky dory, because I still battle evil at times. It's my faith in GOD that helps protect me from evil.

EV: What made you decide to write "Dark Force"?

BB: I feel that GOD called me to share my story in hopes of helping others out there.

"The voice thing was the freakiest thing that has happened to us during a show by far. Our studio is one of a pod of studios located inside one big building. Mariah, Trish and I were the only people inside the building and suddenly while you were talking a very loud male voice sounded out from somewhere just outside the studio. We all reacted to it. We video record every show, and I'll make sure to send you a copy of the video. In the video I'm sure you'll see all of us reacting to the noise. Mariah went out of the production booth to see who was in the studio. No one to be found. I cut to a commercial break so that I could step out into the building to see what was going on. Again nobody around. At the end of the show Trish told me that from her position in the studio, she saw a man run across the studio, dark in form, and go between the Pepsi machine and the refrigerator on the opposite side of the building. Problem is, the space between the two is only about four inches wide. That's what we witnessed. Trish isn't one to B.S. about this stuff so I believe her."
